Rotary Antiques & Collectables Auction 31st July 2010
Rotary Gozo held a one-day auction of Antiques and Collectibles raising funds for the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly Project in Gozo to acquire a Storage and Distribution Centre in Gozo. This will be used to increase and provide equipment to those in need in the Community.
We would like to acknowledge the FSEG for helping organise the event, Jan Wilson for making the initial suggestion and support on the day, and fellow NGO's the SPCA and Circolo Gozitano for supporting the event.
The main functions of the society are to assist the sick and the elderly in every way and to help improve and increase home facilities available for the safety,
welfare, comfort and convenience of the sick and the elderly in Gozo. This includes the delivery of Meals-on-wheels and the provision of equipment including hoists, specialised beds, ripple-mattresses, and other equipment.

"Summer Garden Party" on 30th July 2010
Rotary Club Gozo organised a Summer Garden party in a beautiful historic farmhouse. the theme was spanish with Salsa music and Paella. Full details can be downloaded here.

Piano Recital - Michelangelo Carbonara on 6th March 2010

Once again the virtuoso Italian pianist MICHELANGELO CARBONARA - who, you may remember, received a standing ovation after his concert at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz in December 2008 - has offered to help us with another recital in aid of "The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo" and "Happy Moments Kenya".
The piano recital, organised by Sonja Sinclair Stevenson, will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the KAPPELLA at the KEMPINSKI at 19.30 hours.
The entrance fee is €20.00. Tickets are limited. Michelangelo's programme will include BRAHMS, CHOPIN, SCHUBERT AND LISZT ....and..... some encores. To know more about this remarkable musician, do visit his website michelangelocarbonara.it.
The recital will be followed by an optional dinner at the Kempinski Trattoria , where you will be able to enjoy a three-course dinner with an Italian flavour and meet Michelangelo. "A Winter Interlude" on 9th December 2009
Rotary Club Gozo member Mariella Cassar organised a special Concert “A Winter Interlude” on Wednesday, December 9,2009 at 7.30 p.m. at ST. GEORGE'S BASILICA - AULA MGR. G. FARRUGIA. Mariella's own compositions were performed in the first and second part of the programme to an appreciative audience.
Mariella plays the violin, violoncello and piano and is currently reading for a PhD in Composition at Dartington College of Arts under thetutorship of Dr. Christopher Best. We should not forget that she is an Education Officer for Music within the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education.
This attractive and varied programme FROM BARQUE TO CONTEMPORARY WORKS featured music by Bach, Mozart, Scriabin, the British Composer Christopher Best and Maltese Composers Albert Garzia, Philip Ciantar and Mariella Cassar.
Pianist ALEXEI GALEA who was chosen to represent Malta in the European Union Piano Competition and Festival in Prague in June 2009 performed in the first part of the programme. During the second part he was joined by Yuri Charyguine, Láng Dávid, Emese Tóth, Rahia Angela Awalom, and Rosabelle Bianchi.
The concert was organised in aid of Rotary’s selected charities.

GOZO’S BIGGEST FINE ART AND SCULPTURE EXHIBITION OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON 19th SEPTEMBER 2009
Rotary Club Gozo presented its third annual exhibition celebrating the widest range of art that the island can offer.
Works by some of Malta and Gozo’s foremost “names” featured alongside international talents and those from developing artists. It was an excellent display of paintings and sculptures to suit all tastes – and pockets. In all 64 artists exhibited.
As usual, The Gozo Fine Art and Sculpture Exhibition was held at the Citadella, Victoria, spread throughout the grand old St John’s, St Michael’s and St Ursula’s Halls.
This annual event was augmented on the evenings of 2nd and 3rd October by the Renaissance Orchestra from Germany. “A feast for the ears as well as the eyes”.
All proceeds raised will go to Rotary’s currently preferred charities: The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo and Happy Moments in Kenya. The worldwide charity, End Polio Now, run by The Rotary Foundation, will also benefit.

Celebration of wine - Notte Gozitana May 2009
As part of the upcoming Notte Gozitana festivities, Rotary Club Gozo hosted special wine tasting nights on the bastions at the Citadella, Victoria. These took place on the nights of 22nd and 23rd May and traditional Gozitan food specialities were also served.
All wine-lovers and visitors were given a complimentary glass to use to sample the various wines that will be shown, which was then be free to keep.
There was live musical entertainment throughout. including a singing talent competition, Mistaken Identity, Cash and Band. The Hon Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi handed out the prizes during his visit to the event.
All proceeds from “A Celebration of Wine” will benefit Rotary Club Gozo’s preferred charities for 2009: The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo, Oasi, Wirt Ghawdex, Rotary Foundation and Happy Moments, in Kenya.
21st March 2009 Noel Coward Dinner Evening
On Saturday 21st March 2009 Rotary Club Gozo held an "Evening with Noel Coward" at Kempinski Hotel. The event comprised of a 3-course Dinner including Wine, followed by the music and lyrics of Noel Coward. It turned out to be an excellent event. Our special thanks to Terry Shaw and Paul Barnes, Lysander Productions for providing the free entertainement. thanks also to Marsovin wines for sponsoring the event and talking about the wines.
Background: Sir Noël Peirce Coward (16 December 1899 – 26 March 1973) was an English playwright, composer, director, actor and singer known for his witty remarks and flamboyant lifestyle.
After beginning a career as a child actor, Coward began writing plays in his 20s. His plays Hay Fever, Private Lives, Design for Living, Present Laughter and Blithe Spirit have entered the regular theatre repertoire. The Times said of him, "None of the great figures of the English theatre has been more versatile than he," and ranked his plays in "the classical tradition of Congreve, Sheridan, Wilde and Shaw".
In addition to over 50 published plays and many albums of original songs, Coward wrote musicals, comic revues, poetry, several volumes of short stories, the novel Pomp and Circumstance and three volumes of autobiography.
Books of his song lyrics, diaries and letters have also been published.
He
also continued a substantial stage, cabaret and film career spanning six decades, starring in many of his own works as well as in the works of other writers.
Dinner Soiree 30th January 2009
Gozo was the venue of Pro-Life Day 2009 celebrated for the first time on Friday 30th January 2009. This was launched by Guzeppa Debono Home and a Soiree organized at Ta’ Frenc Restaurant. It included a sumptuous 4-course Gala Dinner prepared by the renowed chefs at Ta’ Frenc, an auction of paintings by the young Gozitan artist Christopher Saliba and also on site paintings by the same artist. Pieces of sculpture by another Gozitan artist, Victor Agiuswere also auctioned. There was also time for instrumental music provided by various well known local musicians which added to the magic of the Soiree.

The Soiree included various important guest speakers: His Excellency Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, the Hon. Giovanna Debono Minister for Gozo, the Hon. Dr. Justyne Caruana MP and Mrs. Catherine Gonzi.

The programme included works by Chopin, Gershwin and Brahms.

After the Recital guests had an opportunity to meet Michelangelo at a special Dinner with an Italian flavour for €30.00 per person including wine, water and coffee. the event was an astounding success and Mr Carbonara finished to a standing ovation. All Proceeds to the Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo.
1st November 2008 – 23rd November 2008
On Saturday 1st November 2008 at 7.30pm , Rotary Club Gozo supported the Artist & Sculptor Victor Agius at the opening of his new exhibition of Sculpture at Ministry for Gozo, St Francis Square. Victoria, Gozo Malta held from 1st November 2008 – 23rd November 2008. The exhibition was opened by the Prime Minister of Malta. A percentage of sales commission is to be donated to Rotary to go to one of our supported charities.

On Tuesday 21st October 2008 at 7pm , Rotary Club Gozo hosted a special gala dinner at the Cittadella Centre for Culture and the Arts, St Ursula Hall, The Citadel, Victoria, Gozo.
21st October is Trafalgar Day and the evening started a week-long exhibition of marine paintings by Thomas J Burnell, an international marine artist who specialises in ships, seascapes, battles (the Nelson period in particular) and historical events at sea (www.studiointheyard.com).
Tom's work was on display both at the dinner, in St Ursula Hall, and the exhibition in St John Hall. Proceeds from the dinner and commissions on all sales will go to the four chosen charities of the Gozo Rotary Club, namely: The Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo (www.fsegozo.com), Wirt Ghawdex (www.wirtghawdex.org), OASI (www.oasi.org.mt) and Happy Moments Kenya (tba).The evening was rounded off with an auction of one of Tom’s Limited Edition Prints and some fine cased wine, donated my Marsovin Winery. more...

29th AUGUST 2008 : L-GHABEX CONCERT, St Ursula Hall, Victoria
The excellent and successful L’Ghabex concert was held at the Citadel Centre for Culture and the Arts in aid of Dar Guzeppa Debono situated in Mgarr, Gozo. The concert’s performances were the result of a joint collaboration between Mariella Cassar and Albert Garzia, two young composers both studying composition in the UK. The concert featured ten pieces in all including both ensembles and solos, with a variety in style that made this a unique experience for the audience. Click on image to see poster details. more...

Governors Visit & Lunch
7th December 2007
The District Governor for Sicily and Malta visited Rotary Club Gozo for the first time. Following a Board meeting with the Council they were then treated to a formal lunch at Kempinski Hotel, which is Rotary Gozo's official home.

Sentinella Hall Art Exhibition
8th - 16th December 2007
This Art Exhibition including art & sculpture from 24 artists on Malta & Gozo was a great success. Held in the medieval hall, once used as a prison in the Citadel fortifications in Rabat Gozo. Considering the short time to organise and publicise the event (6 weeks) it went extremely well, raising nearly Lm1000 for our nominated charity (The CCU Foundation).
