Rotary Gozo Charities
The primary charitable causes selected by Rotary Gozo are listed in the following TABS. Most of our fundraising events this period will be for these causes. We will be selecting discrete projects within their programs to support during 2008-2009.
We are always looking for sponsors. If you feel you can support us in these causes then please contact us and let us know how you can help.

Rotary Foundation
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
Polio
After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions.
Your contribution will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families. More details here.
As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high.
Friends of the Sick and of the Elderly in Gozo

OASI
The OASI Foundation promises a commitment to assist people in their continuous life-long education to enhance their self awareness, mature growth and happy life, to accompany them in personal distress from desperation into hope and eventually to treat and lead those with the disease of addiction or alcoholism towards a recovery touched with a serene future.
In November 1998 the Foundation opened a residential unit for the treatment of addiction. This move made it possible for the OASI Foundation to offer three separate addiction treatment services: out-patients, day programme and residential treatment - three services tailored for the personal needs and social situations of its clients.
A lifetime recovery pre-supposed good follow-up care to all those who go through residential treatment. Therefore in the 2005, the OASI Foundation embarked on a further development of its treatment program by opening a Half Way House for a more concrete and practical social integration of its clients. The service proved to be very effective in the recovery process. Most clients stay for a few months, usually between two to six months, under the supervision of a care worker who assists them with further social adjustment and coping skills.
New treatment unit
Demand for the services of the OASI Foundation continued to increase as years went by. Extension works of the OASI Centre at 5, Wied Sara Street started once again in June 1997. Due to financial and technical difficulties work had to stop several times. The new unit isi intended to open before the end of 2007. It will house all the OASI departments under the one roof, making it easier to administer and less expensive to run.

Gozo
CCU Monitors Foundation
This was our primary charitable cause for 2007-2008 and most fund raising activies were targetting this cause. The aim of the foundation is to replace all the heart monitoring equipment in Gozo General Hospital. Most of the monitors are faulty or temperamental. Such crucial equipment needs to be replaced with some urgency. We appeal to all to help the CCU Foundation complete this task for the benefit of all Gozitans and residents of Gozo.
At the beginning of July, the Club was pleased to present a cheque for €7,415 to The Gozo CCU Foundation. Earlier in the year over €2,000 was also donated by the club.
The cheque was presented by David Carrington, president of Rotary Gozo, to Paul Bellamy, on behalf of the CCU, at a gala dinner hosted at the Kempinski St Lawrenz Hotel in early July 2008. Along with other donations and fund-raising the CCU Foundation are now able to purchase their 6th unit.
