About Rotary Gozo: Formation

On 24th May 2007, the new Rotary Club Gozo officially became part of Rotary District 2110, which encompasses Sicily and Malta.  It was Chartered by Alfred Mangion, District Governor at a special Charter Day lunch held at the Ta’ Frenc restaurant, Gozo.  Distinguished guests included His Lordship Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo and many others who had travelled especially from Malta and Sicily for the occasion.
Rotary Club Gozo has been sponsored by Rotary Club Malta, whose members have provided invaluable guidance and assistance. It has nearly 30 regular members, including Gozitan, Maltese and foreign residents.  Rotary’s main aims are two-fold: to provide service to those less fortunate than ourselves and to foster good-will, fellowship and understanding between members, locally and worldwide. Fund-raising will be undertaken to benefit charities and other philanthropic causes both locally and abroad – but priority will be given to the former.
The setting up of a Rotary Club will be an important development for Gozo, offering benefits to the local community.  And, through our links with over 32, 000 other clubs worldwide, we could put Gozo on the map for many people who do not yet know the island
The first Club President is David Carrington, an Englishman who has known the island for nearly 36 years.
