L'Ghabex Concert held on 29th August 2008
The excellent and successful L’Ghabex concert was held at the Citadel Centre for Culture and the Arts in aid of Dar Guzeppa Debono situated in Mgarr, Gozo. The concert’s performances were the result of a joint collaboration between Mariella Cassar and Albert Garzia, two young composers both studying composition in the UK. The concert featured ten pieces in all including both ensembles and solos, with a variety in style that made this a unique experience for the audience. The instruments featured in the concert were piano, two violins, viola, two cellos, clarinet, accordion, xylophone and percussion (timpani, snare drum and tubular bells), as well as the voices of a soprano and mezzo-soprano.
All performers are professional players and singers who are members of the Maltese Philharmonic orchestra. Opera singer Miriam Cauchi is a firmly established Maltese soprano, making a name for herself both in her native country and overseas. Cauchi and her husband cellist Simon Abdilla Joslin perform a composition called L’Ghabex in their first public performance together. A grand piano, tubular bells and a set of timpani were provided specifically for the concert.
