Speaker Night - Climbing Mount Everest

On 17 May 2010 at 6.30am Nepali time (3.15 am Malta time) three Maltese climbers reached the summit of?Mt. Everest and planted the Maltese flag on the top of the world. The Everest expedition took 10 weeks of living in a tent above 5300 metres elevation, with gale force winds and temperatures falling to below - 30 degrees Celcius.

ROTARY GOZO?invites you to hear the story of this historic expedition straight from the horses mouth. Ing. Marco Cremona who got the Challenge8000 team together two years ago will deliver an action-filled presentation on what it takes for somebody who lives in a warm island in the Mediterranean to take on the highest mountains in the world.

Donations will be collected during the talk which will go to sponsor?the street-children?of Kathmandu by housing?them in the Shangrila Home which offers warm food, medical care, education?and lots of love from the many volunteers who have been working there over the years.?http://www.shangrilahome.be/English/index1_e.html

Marco Cremona is a hydrologist, a water treatment engineer and an environmental activist.?From time to time, he does?put his expertise into practice as a volunteer in various developing countries and has won various international awards for his innovative projects. In November 2009 he was selected as one of the 50 Most Interesting Citizens in the EU.
