Rotary Club Membership

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Rotarian. Rotary International is an association of individual clubs that operate autonomously. Membership is extremely important to us, and we are always eager to hear from individuals interested in our mission and joining a Rotary club.

Our universal premise is that each club's membership constitutes an accurate representation of the business and professional population within the community served.

Membership in a Rotary club requires an invitation and sponsorship by a member of the club as well as an available business or professional classification.  The new member then attends three meetings to see whether Rotary is “for them”.

Annual membership fees are collected twice annually. These include fees payable to Rotary International, Rotary District and the running of the local club. Membership also includes up to 6 fully subsidised dinners at the Club's premises, In this instance Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz. The club also full subsidises annual contributions to Rotary Foundation

On 24th May 2007, the new Rotary Club Gozo officially became part of Rotary District 2110, which encompasses Sicily and Malta.  It was Chartered by Alfred Mangion, District Governor at a special Charter Day lunch held at the Ta’ Frenc restaurant, Gozo.  Distinguished guests included His Lordship Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, District Governor (Sicily & Malta) Dr Alfred Mangion, many Pasdt District Governors, Club Presidents and many others who had travelled especially from Malta and Sicily for the occasion.

Rotary Club Gozo has been sponsored by Rotary Club Malta, whose members have provided invaluable guidance and assistance. It has nearly 30 regular members, including Gozitan, Maltese and foreign residents.  Rotary’s main aims are two-fold: to provide service to those less fortunate than ourselves and to foster good-will, fellowship and understanding between members, locally and worldwide. Fund-raising will be undertaken to benefit charities and other philanthropic causes both locally and abroad – but priority will be given to the former.
The setting up of a Rotary Club will be an important development for Gozo, offering benefits to the local community.  And, through our links with over 32, 000 other clubs worldwide, we could put Gozo on the map for many people who do not yet know the island.

The first Club President was David Carrington, an Englishman who has known the island for nearly 36 years.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
